Tournament Rules

So you and your little friends think you've got what it takes, do you? Just because you've managed to avoid attaching a leg to where your creation's head is supposed to go, do you actually think you deserve the title of Greatest Golem Builder? Well don't get cocky! It's time to put your reputation on the slab by staging a mass mad scientist free-for-all!

To that end, here are instructions for running a GOLEM tournament at an event or convention. If you are planning to run a tournament, please let us know so that we can mention it in the news and on the events page. If the master is generous, he might even send out some prizes for the triumphant mad scientists.

A GOLEM tournament is played in a "Swiss-style" format of 3 rounds. Each round consists of a player participating in a game. Depending on how many participants you have for the tournament, divide up the players among tables as follows:

# of Players
Primary Table
Secondary Table

Add more tables if there are more players. However, try to evenly divide players among the tables, with 3-5 participants per table. Which table players sit at is decided randomly for the first round and then by a player's score in future rounds.

A GOLEM game will be played to 10 points. At the end of a round, a player gains points to his overall score in the following manner:

Scoring
Points collected to your slab:
# of points
Winning the game:
+ 5 bonus points
Creating a pure golem during the game:
+ 2 bonus points

Diabolical points must be on your slab to count at the end of the game, points still on switch cards do not count. The bonus for creating a pure golem is given out once per player per game. The maximum amount of points you have collected on your slab at the end of the game is 10 and any excess is lost.

Points carry over between rounds. At the end of the first round, rank players in ordinal form according to their scores. Put the top players at the primary table, the next top players at the secondary table, etc. Decide randomly if there is a tie for a table position. An example of a first round of 8-player tournament play follows:

Do the same for the second round results adding points from the first round. After the third round, whoever has the highest point total from all three rounds is the winner of the tournament with second and third places being rewarded appropriately. In case of ties, resolve by who won the most games followed by bounses received for pure golems.

ETIQUETTE

Players must keep all cards on their slab visible to all opponents. Stacking body part cards and special cards will not be allowed.

Players may not look through the discard pile before playing a GRAVE ROB card. Cards being discarded must be shown to all players at the time of discarding.

Table talk is allowed so long as it does not prolong the game or refer to specific cards in any players hand. Showing cards in your hand to other players is forbidden!

Kibbitzers will be hacked up and their body parts used for golem creation (just kidding, but kibbitzing is not allowed and offenders will be asked to leave the play area).
